In 1990 Eugene Grubbs
wanted to spend a quiet day in the swamp, bream fishing in his one man
boat. Being a big ole boy, 6' 2" tipping in at 225, Gene had a helluva
time comfortably sitting in the boat. He started thinking about why
someone hasn't designed an affordable one man boat, built strong with today's
ultra light materials, and made to comfortably fish a grown man and light enough to go anywhere as a duck boat.
Gene started building one man boats, first with wood,
then fiberglass, and even other materials not considered for the standard one
man boat. After several years, he found the materials were either not
durable enough to take a lifetime of use or could withstand the elements as a duck boat.
He finally surmised that light gauge aluminum was the answer. This began
the birth of the Swamp Ghost one man boat.
After settling on aluminum as the material of choice,
Gene began a design that would hold a full grown man and his gear. He
looked at the optimum shape to give the most leg room, yet still be smooth in
the water. He began to test and design several different prototypes until
choosing the best design in one man boats.

Gene spent the next 6 years building a one man boat
that would gain USCG approval. As he continued building one man boats,
hunting buddies began to take notice. A group of family and friends visit
Gene annually to take part in the great duck hunting in the area. This
group of a dozen men starting buying Swamp Ghost one man boats and taking
them back to South Carolina where Gene was born. They found the perfect duck boat. People have actually
bought one man boats site unseen because of the Swamp Ghost Boat reputation.
Any fishing or hunting sportsman that sees one, wants a Swamp Ghost Boat.
